Ontario Electricity Support Program

Date
1 January 2016

The Agency has learned about several Ontario programs that can help co-ops and their members save energy—and money. While your co-op will need to invest some money in order to benefit in some initiatives, these measures offer long-term value. If this idea interests your co-op, you may wish to check out the websites below. Please bear in mind that some programs may have quotas or are intended only for single-family dwellings. Others can be expected to relaunch in 2016 with some changes. We would strongly encourage co-ops to promote the Ontario Electricity Support Program to their members.

For your Members

Ontario Electricity Support Program - This program is now accepting applications for a scheduled beginning in 2016. It is intended to help low-income residents with hydro bills by providing a monthly credit on their bill. To qualify, residents must
  • receive an electricity bill;
  • apply for the program on-line at OntarioElectricitySupport.ca; and
  • be of modest income in relation to the number of people in your household.

Following a review, each applicant will find out whether or not they qualify for the reduction on their bill.

Plans in Action

The average co-op with an approved capital replacement plan tucks away more than $3,600 per unit in reserves each year--triple the 2007 amount. Does their future hold better windows? New kitchens? Savings mean more choices.
