Ontario Social Infrastructure Fund

Date
1 September 2016

The Honourable Jean-Yves Duclos, Minister of Families, Children and Social Development, and the Honourable Chris Ballard, Ontario’s Minister of Housing recently announced measures that will provide Canadians with greater access to more affordable housing, support affordable housing for seniors, help build and renovate shelters and transition houses for victims of family violence, and address repairs and improve the energy and water efficiency of existing social housing.

Over the next two years, more than $640 million in new funding will be jointly invested in Ontario by the federal and provincial governments. Ontario is matching the Federal Government's commitment to double the current funding under the Investment in Affordable Housing initiative. An additional $168 million in provincial funding will be available to build, renovate, and provide critical affordable housing across the province.

The Ontario Social Infrastructure Fund will also include assistance for federal co-ops whose agreements have expired before 1 April 2016 and are ineligible for the subsidy extension. CHF Canada’s Ontario Region and the regional federations are working with the Government of Ontario and municipal managers to develop plans for these co-ops. Contact your local federation for further details. You can also contact Keith Moyer at 1-800-268-2537 ext. 224 or by email at kmoyer@chfcanada.coop.
